Growing Healthy Plants

 
Project Description
 

Plants are important to other living things on earth.  Plants help clean the air we breath, supplying oxygen for all living things. In this project, students will be assigned to one of two groups to observe and explore what is needed to grow a healthy plant.  Students will conduct experiments to understand how a plant gets water, air, and light to grow healthy.

Unit Prerequisites

 

Students will have a general understanding of a plant.   

Students will be encouraged to talk about what makes a plant grow.

Performance Actions

Access:

  • Ask questions about what affects plant growth.

  • Observe plant growth.

  • Taste different plant parts that edible.

 Interpret:

  • List what plants need to grow healthy.

  • Compare and contrast healthy and unhealthy plants.

  • Imagine you are a healthy plant or an unhealthy plant.

 Produce:

  • Design an experiment to show healthy and unhealthy plants.

  • Draw a picture of what you see.

  • Record the finding in your journal.

Communicate:

  • Tell the class what you found about the experiment.

  • Make up a riddle about plant parts.

  • Show your findings using posters, plant journal and booklet.

Evaluate:

  • Check plants daily

  • Critique plant growth

  • Assess groups using rubrics and checklist.
