Don't Get Stuck in the World Wide Web !

The Mission

   Bill Gates has recruited your teacher to develop a website where teachers can easily find classroom activities.  Mr. Gates has specified that each major subject must be represented with at least five educational websites.

   Your teacher however, is overworked and needs your help!  Students must divide into groups of three and find educational websites for Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, English, and Computer classes. 

   One person in the group will use a search engine provided to find the educational websites and give an overview to make sure they are relevant.  Another person will thoroughly search the websites and decide which sites make the first cut.  The third person will rank each website with a number from the rubric given by the teacher.  All three members then must choose the top five to be included in Mr. Gates new educational software. 

The Process

 Step One:  Your teacher will introduced to the background of the assignment. You will be divided into groups of three.

Step Two:  In your groups, you will each assume one of the following roles:

Ø     Technical Director – Whose job will be to find the websites using the search engine provided, and give a basic overview of the content.

Ø     Content Supervisor – Whose job will be to search the web site thoroughly for relevant information.

Ø     Information Placement Specialist – Whose job will be to rank the websites in each subject using the rubric designed.

All students will work together, but for each role, a different person supervises.

Step Three:  Each group will research good educational websites to get useful background knowledge then design their rubric which will help in determining an exceptional website.

Step Four:  Each group will perform their roles for each subject listed, and compile their results. They then vote, using the rubric, and decide on the top five websites for each subject.

Step Five:  Each website is individually entered into the search engine, and all the key words are invented to help looking for multiple subjects.
