Breads

Project Description

Looking at ways bread making has changed from early to modern times within different cultures, bread has been the driving force in the creations of culture and society. Bread has been called the staff of life.

Teaching the differences of bread making in the early  days as compared to today’s bread making can tell us facts about ourselves and our culture-past and present.  How did it began?  How has it changed?  How has the use of technology changed bread making?

In this unit, the students will experience bread making from the past to the present.  They will learn the origin of bread making, including the ingredients and the tools used, as compared to bread making today with the use of technology.  They will work in groups. They will view pictures of early bread making, tools used, and recipes. In addition, they will receive hands on experience, research the web, and give Power Point presentations to share with the class.  Each group will develop a bread recipe of their own.
