Credit Card Mania

Project Description
Credit is a major part of the American economy. Shortly, many students will be bombarded with credit card offers and before they know it, may be caught in a cycle of debt that takes a lifetime to end.

Since credit cards are so prevalent and easy to obtain, students must be taught how the credit business works and be able to weigh the pros and cons of credit card offerings so they can make intelligent decisions when obtaining and using personal credit cards.

Students will analyze credit card brochures to become familiar with financial terminology, compare rates and terms, monthly payment requirements, and other incentives offered by credit card companies. Students will learn to read the “fine print” and understand the potential problems with credit cards that are often hidden from consumers. Students will model real-life purchases using credit cards vs. cash and develop reasons for their method of purchase.

Students will document their purchases and display on a spreadsheet or poster board and present examples of when a credit card purchase is beneficial and when cash purchases are beneficial.
