And the Beat Goes On!!!

All children learn differently. It is for that reason that we, as educators must  use various strategies to accommodate different learning styles…one of them being music.

In this project, students will be able to listen to recorded music that teaches and supports academic goals. For example, students might listen to a Schoolhouse Rock tape that focuses on math, language arts, or social studies. Students will work individually or groups of no more than three. Students will be encouraged to write academic lyrics to be used in the teaching of others. It is anticipated that through music, students will address academic learning standards and exhibit improved achievement.|

            Unit Prerequisites

• A working knowledge of the writing process

• Exhibit an ability to organize thoughts using main ideas and details 

• Some knowledge of Microsoft Word

• Basic knowledge of internet navigation

• Have a some knowledge of PowerPoint

Access:

·        Observe the different forms of music used to teach skills

·        Listen to teacher presentations/ lessons

·        Survey the students to determine their learning styles

·        Observe students’ ability to apply concepts

Interpret:

·        Determine the best way to retain taught skills

·        Integrate learning disciplines of reading, writing, math, and social studies

Produce:

·        Compose a rap or song teaching a skill

·        Produce a recording of their composition

·        Create a PowerPoint presentation

·        Demonstrate the use of Inspiration

·        Produce a K-W-L Chart using Inspiration

Communicate:

·        Perform an enactment of your composition

·        Play songs for other classes

·        Demonstrate the PowerPoint presentation to other students

Evaluate:

·        Students will critique each others presentation using a rubric

·        Discuss peers’ presentation and offer comments or suggestions
