WOMEN TODAY AND YESTERDAY

Project Description

American history is a history of a great nation and its people… all of its’ people.  For this particular reason we should acknowledge all Americans who have help to make our country great.

The role of the African American woman has been greatly ignored for many years in this country.  There have been many historical events that involved African American women. It is important that they are recognized for their contributions in history.

The purpose of this project is help students meet African American Women who have influenced the course of American history.  If students have a greater awareness of African American Women they will undoubtedly have a better understanding of American history and a greater appreciation for all of it’s people.

In this unit students will work in cooperative groups and create a collage of African American women.  Students will research an area of interest (ex. medicine, education, the arts, sports, etc.) and write a report.  During Women’s History Month students will do an intercom presentation.
