How Violence in the Classroom Impacts Learning

Project Description

This Interdisciplinary study is designed to assist students in developing an awareness of how violence in the classroom negatively impacts learning.

Violence is prevalent in many of the lives of our students at Montefiore. It is critical for the survival of our students, as productive members of society, that they see the benefits to learning of non-violent behavior

Students will focus on developing an understanding of causes of classroom violence and how it affects their opportunities to learn.  Through role-playing , the Internet, and art, they will see how increased reading skills can help them in real life.

Project Goals

Essential Question:

How do we prevent violence?

Specific Questions:
  • What is violence?

  • How does it look, sound and feel like?

  • How does violence make you feel?

  • What kinds of violence occur in the classroom?

  • What happens before a violent act occurs?

  •  How are reading abilities affected by violence in the classroom?
