Who Are We ?

The Mission

Performance Tasks:

 The Du Sable Museum is creating a new and exciting exhibit about African American Authors, Poets, and Songwriters from the Chicago Area.  The intent of the exhibit is to show the impact of the African American culture on literature.  This project will assist in the study and understanding of different periods in history and show how the literature of these different periods reflect he African American culture and our country’s history. 

You will work in co-operative groups with approximately three or four students to synthesize and analyze a certain literary figure.  From the research and other activities you and your group will be able to determine the impact the literary figure has on our society.

Together with the Du Sable Museum’s Project Coordinator,  you will design an exhibit that will be displayed at the museum..

The Process

• Your teacher will assign you to a small group of 3-4 students.  One student will record the findings for the group.  

• You will be assigned a specific person to research, using a prescribed web site.  A worksheet will be provided for the group. 

• As you research and learn more about your person, you will do the following:

• You will write a brief character sketch about your person

• You will write an interview of the person researched

• You will explore web sites to find  two people who have a similar

• background to yours.

• With a partner you will use Inspiration  to organize your information    

• Each member of your group will be responsible for creating a character

• sketch, autobiographical experience, poem, or song

• Your final presentation will be a Power Point Presentation

• Each group will use a rubric to evaluate the Final Presentation.
