Project Description
 
Students do not have an understanding of money—how to earn it, how to spend it wisely and how to save it.  By exploring the different processes of attaining and maintaining wealth, students will gain a better understanding of the concept of money. They will take over the operation and management of the school store and attempt to make it a profitable business.  Students will develop a business/action plan for establishing a successful business enterprise.

Unit Prerequisites
 
  • Prior knowledge of math skills

  • Prior knowledge of selling a product

 

Performance Actions

Access:                              

  • Survey student population

  • Gather opinions/facts relating to school supply store 

  • Listen to students' recommendations on improving the school store

Interpret:

  • Analyze survey

  • Determine whether or not recommendations are feasible

  • Organize plans for improvement

Produce:

  • Develop an action plan to implement improvements

  • Compose a written document to include the action plan to be presented to the principal

Communicate:

  • Groups A and B will discuss outcomes from survey

  • Discuss workable options 

  • Determine which plan of action will be feasible

Evaluate:

  • Rubric will be developed to assess the levels of input and recommendations  
  • Weigh individual plans for improvement
