FUNDRAISING AT FLORIDA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
(continued)
Improving Education Is a Team Effort
Currently, every grade level at Greynolds Park is networked with Novell NetWare and Microsoft Windows 95. The PTA continues to raise enough money to pay for maintenance and annual upgrades to the installed base of 150 486s. Selecting Kuperstein, says Multz, "has paid tremendous dividends in all areas of our school program. She is deeply committed to education reform through technology and staff development, and works with an effervescent zeal and passion to make it happen for children."
Like most successful ventures, wiring Greynolds Park was a team effort that included support from the Dade County District Office of Instructional Technology. "The fundraising efforts by our incredible PTA, and contribution and support by our business and community partners have been outstanding," adds Multz. Clearly Multz himself also deserves a lot of credit for catalyzing the energy of an entire community toward improving the education of its children.
Reducing the student-teacher ratio is an important benefit of technology, but even more important, says Multz, is the fact that "our children are getting a fair shake at tomorrows job market. Even though none of us can predict tomorrow, these children of working-class parents will be totally computer literate when they leave Greynolds Park. They'll know Web pages, spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and publishing. That's a definite asset to any child."
