Dr. Dorene Huvaere
has been involved in education for 20 years. During this time she has worked as a classroom teacher, school administrator and university instructor.
Teaching social studies to high school students
in the Chicago area, Dorene prepared students
to participate in the National History Fair Day
competition in Washington D.C. Several of her
students received scholarships and national
recognition for their outstanding research in
local history.
Currently, Dorene serves as the program chair
for Secondary Certification at Lewis University.
She works with pre-service and in-service teachers
to promote effective teaching and classroom
practices that engage students in the learning
process. Her classes and staff development workshops
focus on providing teachers with strategies
that can be used with today's learners. Among
the courses she teaches is Technology for
Educators. This course is designed to enable educators
to use computer applications to design technology
based curriculum projects.
Dorene also serves on the National Council for Social Studies NCATE program review team. She has presented at regional and national conferences on the Engaged Learning
and the use of computer based technology in classroom instruction.
