Teacher Comments:

This workshop kept my interest from beginning ot end.  It was well organized and very understandable.  The lader had a great deal of patience.  It was outstanding.  The explanations were clear and concise.

I would liek to see a Part 2 created so that I could delve deeper into this topic.

Five Day Approach

In the Five Day workshop series, the participants will begin to construct a TILE lesson that includes the following components:

  • Project Description (see example)
  • Project Goals, including Essential Question, Specific Questions, Illinois State Goals (and local curriculum) (see example)
  • Performance Task (see example)
  • Performance Actions (assess, interpret, produce, communicate, and evaluate) (see example)
  • Performance Assessment (see example)

Participants will receive instruction in the latest research and practice in instructional design as it applies to technology.
(ISBE Professional Teaching Standards, #1E, 1H, 2G, 3G, 3J, 3L, 4J, 4M, 5G, 5J, 6E, 6H, 6J, 8G, 8J, 9F, 10E, 11F)
(ISBE Technology Standards for All Teachers, #3A, 3C, 3D, 7I, 7K, 8A, 8B, 8C)

In addition, the school will choose a technology strand.  This technology strand will consist of a hands-on training session.
(ISBE Technology Standards for All Teachers, #2, 7K)

The participants will also receive training in successful strategies for implementing technology in the classroom, including both direct instruction and modeling of the “Before-During-After” strategy.  In this strategy, teachers learn how to prepare the students to use the technology tool utilizing:

  • activating strategies (before)
  • how to use various strategies - including cooperative grouping, collaborative pairs, cognitive strategies and organizing - while students work at the computer (during)
  • how to apply summarizing, extending, and refining strategies when the students complete the computer activity (after).

(ISBE Professional Teaching Standards, #2F, 3J, 4N, 5G, 6F, 7F) (ISBE Technology Standards for All Teachers, # 3D, 7K)

A section of the TILE lesson will contain a detailed description of the application of this approach.

At the end of this series, participating teachers will complete:

  • a section of the lesson plan that includes a technology tool description
  • a workshop evaluation
  • a tip sheet related to the technology training.  This tip sheet will be produced for classroom usage and will be immediately applicable.
