The
MULTI-GENRE PROJECT is designed to improve math and reading
skills, by promoting engaged learning through the use of technology.
The term "Multi-Genre" is used to indicate the use of
a variety of writing styles. The traditional research paper was
an example of expository writing. This project proposed that all
freshman students use a combination of writing styles that
may include creative, journalistic, poetic, first-person narrative
reports, as well as persuasive and expository writing to complete
a 5-7 page booklet, newspaper or dterm paper. Students determine
the format of their papers.
Writing skills and algebra teachers worked collaboratively with
students to produce their projects. Students established a position
on their selected topics, read to gain insights into differences
of opinion, then supported their arguments with appropriate data
analysis. The MULTI-GENRE PROJECT serves as a catalyst to prepare
students to survive and thrive in tomorrow's technological society.
